Jabra STONE Bluetooth Headset with Extreme Noise Blocking Reviews

I was drawn to the design of this bluetooth headset. It is, compared to other headsets, a work of art! The price was a bit off-putting, but I splurged, knowing that if I didn't like it I could return it within 30 days. I gave it several trials on road trips of varying lengths, as well as just walking around while doing errands. I liked the way the ear loop fit around my ear much better than the usual covered wire ear loops. I liked how you couldn't really see it that much when hidden by my hair, though even when it was visible the design was not as "call center" as some others. I liked the little "stone" that, in addition to being a charging station, was a great storage device and made it easy to locate when I dug for it in my purse.
And that's the end of what I liked.
Here's what I didn't like: I didn't like that I never could get the earbud positioned to fit comfortably in my ear, and because the loop that fits around the ear is fixed rather than adjustable, there really wasn't any ability to adjust it so the earbud was in the right place for my ear. I think the earbud was too large, and I didn't see any extra earbuds of different sizes that could be used instead. I didn't like that I couldn't really tell if I was adjusting the volume up or down because the volume adjustment is under the "skin" of the earpiece---honestly I was never sure I had even activated the volume control. I didn't like that when trying to adjust the headset so I could hear, I invariably hit the spot that cuts off the phone call---that happened at least a dozen times in the first two weeks. I didn't like that when I pressed on the spot that ends a call or is used to redial the last number, I ended up pressing the whole thing into my ear, which is not at all comfortable. And here is the worst part: the call time is ridiculously short, and even the standby time is inadequate. When I made my 8 hour road trips, as I often do, I had to take the bluetooth off and recharge it at least once during the trip, and that means that for that time I no longer had the hands-free capability while driving, which is the whole point of owning a bluetooth for me. I hear that it is able to be used to listen to music; this is not a priority for me, but I can't help but think it would be annoying to have such a short amount of time to listen to the music before it had to be recharged.
I think I would have learned to live with all the other problems I mentioned if it weren't for the very inadequate talk time and standby time. It really is the most beautiful bluetooth out there. But at that price, this thing should be absolutely perfect, and the time issue is a non-starter for me.

Well, I spent some time with this headset and I can definitely say that it is NOT for power users who run down batteries and spend hours each day using the Bluetooth headsets. The problem is that this headset would have to spend about half the day sitting in its charger.
I, on the other hand, consider myself a normal or even light cell phone user. My usage includes one Bluetooth headset in the office that I use for meetings that total around 3-4 hours per week. There is another headset in my truck that I only use for answering incoming calls as well as calling people using the voice-dial feature of my BlackBerry phone. The headset in my truck is turned off 99% of the time so the batteries tend to last for weeks on end. Rarely do I go over 900 minutes on my cell phone in any given month.
Given that usage model, this headset actually works OK. Here are the things I like about it:
1) The outgoing call quality is excellent! I've never had a headset that worked as well as this one for voice dialing while driving. With my previous headsets, I could only effectively use the voice-dial feature when I was either stopped or idling at a constant speed. With this headset, I can voice-dial in traffic and don't even have to turn the radio off!
2) This headset only takes around 3 seconds to connect to my BlackBerry phone once it is removed from the charger. Both my Plantronics headsets take closer to 7 seconds - and that is after holding the power button for a couple of seconds to turn them on. This makes a big difference when answering incoming calls in the car where I typically don't wear the headset until my phone rings.
3) The 'Stone' charger is a great idea for someone like me who leaves the headset in the car with no charger for weeks at a time. I like that the headset turns itself off automatically when inserted into the charger and then turns on when removed - this gives me plenty of time to put it on my ear and answer incoming calls while driving.
4) It's easy to tell if the 'Stone' charger itself needs to be charged soon. With my Plantronics headset, it typically just dies unexpectedly during calls; so it's nice to have an indicator for when the Jabra needs to be brought into the house and recharged.
5) My first thought after opening this headset was that it didn't look very comfortable; but that has not been true at all. I wore it for 8 hours straight just to verify that it is far more comfortable than it looks. (Fortunately for me, I like wearing the headsets on my right ear because I would be out of luck otherwise with this one.)
6) I love that it connects with 2 different phones, which lets my wife and I both use the same headset when driving the truck.
Even though there is plenty to like about this headset; there are some really irritating things that make me think Jabra was trying to put form before function:
1) The answer button couldn't be in a worse position. It's almost impossible to insert or remove the headset from the charger without pressing it. It's also difficult to put the headset on my ear without pressing the answer button.
2) The volume control is kind of cool, but it's also easy to hit the answer button when messing with the volume. Unfortunately, this has caused me to hang up on callers when I just wanted to increase the volume.
3) The incoming call volume doesn't go as loud as I would like in some cases - a problem I haven't had before with other BlueTooth headsets.
4) Normally I don't care about product packaging - but Jabra went through some serious effort to make it hard to open so I figured I should mention it. The packaging is complemented nicely by not containing much usable documentation:).
At this point, I think the pros outweigh the cons and I'm planning on continuing to use this headset. If, in a couple more weeks, I can't figure out how to use the headset without hitting the answer button all the time, I'll probably switch back to the Plantronics.
The sad thing is Jabra would have had a serious 5-star hit for people like me if they had just made the answer button into an actual button that wasn't so easy to press by accident - but I guess that wouldn't have looked as sleek and cool...
UPDATE: After a few more days of use, I've decided up upgrade this review from 3 to 4 stars. Once I got used to putting this headset on without hitting the power button, it became a lot less irritating - and the positive features I mentioned in the original review are really nice. (I love the quick connection time to my phone as well as the voice quality for voice dialing!) Overall, I'd give this headset a full 5 stars if you aren't going to use it for calls lasting longer than 2 hours; otherwise, you'll have to deal with the short battery life.

Jabra BT 530 Bluetooth Headset Reviews

Beware of this Jabra bt 530 sold by ShopCell. It is not the full retail package and does not come with the USB charging cable nor does it come with the extra ear gels.

Doesn't block the sound as well as the Jawbone, it more or less reduces the background noise. The headset is comfortable and I've been able to wear it on long three or four hour conference calls. The ear gels allow you to use the headset without the ear hook which is great for short calls 5 - 10 min in length which is nice for those who don't want to look like a borg because you can keep the headset in your pocket and stick it in when the phone rings. I've found that on longer calls you'll want the earhook in.
The ability to play music from my blackberry curve works great at work as it's just in one ear, and to me it's like having background music. I don't even have to turn it off when a co-worker starts to talk to me.
All in all this is a nice headset thats worth the money. If you're looking for a comfortable headset that will reduce the background noise of the cube farm you work in, and play back ground music to mute them out when your off the phone, this headset will work for you.

Jabra EXTREME Bluetooth Headset Reviews

The last two Bluetooth headsets that I used were the Plantronics Discovery 925 and Plantronics Discovery 975. They were my favorite headsets among the many I have used since I started wearing them in 2005. Unfortunately, I gave the 925 to my father and my 975 had to be sent in for warranty service. When Amazon offered the Jabra Extreme for me to review, I jumped hard and fast. Would it be an acceptable temporary solution until I got my 975 back, or would it be something else?
PROS:
- Attractive design
- Diminutive size
- Good sound quality
- Good noise cancellation
- Dedicated power switch
- Great range
- Multipoint & A2DP compatibility
- Multiuse (connect 2 devices at the same time)
- FANTASTIC accessories included
- Comfortable fit (for me)
- Fair battery life (5.5 hours talk/10.5 standby)
- Multiple charging options
- Great value for price point
CONS:
- Volume buttons a bit tiny
- May not be comfortable for some ears
- AC charger cord length is extremely short
The unheralded Jabra EXTREME has hit one out of the park folks. Not only did I find it to be a good solution while I waited for my Plantronics Discovery 975 to come back from service, but I think the 975 may just end up becoming my backup headset. The Jabra EXTREME is very similar to the Jabra BT 530 but the EXTREME has improved noise cancellation, Multipoint, Multiuse, Acoustic Shock Protection, and A2DP music streaming. In fact, if you look at the back of the EXTREME headset, you'll see the BT530 model # imprinted on it. Make no mistake though, the EXTREME is significantly improved.
PAIRING
The EXTREME goes into pairing mode the first time it is turned on and my Motorola Droid found it quickly and paired without having to enter a code.
FIT
If you have read my other Bluetooth headset reviews, you know that fit is a HUGE deal for me. The EXTREME admirably attempts to accommodate most users by providing a couple of ear hook sizes, a normal ear gel and also what Jabra calls, Ultimate-fit ear gels. Plantronics has a similar ear gel technology and I have to admit that Plantronics' implementation is more comfortable and fits better. After trying different combinations of ear gels and hooks, I ended up just using the normal ear gel without the hooks. It is secure enough that I could probably go jogging with it and not fall out. It's not quite as comfortable as the Plantronics Discovery 925/975, but definitely good enough for at least an hour of continuous use.
STYLE
Though the EXTREME probably won't win any style awards, I find it to be very attractive. The design is subdued and the gunmetal gray front looks sharp. Also, since the headset isn't very large, it will probably attract less attention to the fact that you are wearing a Bluetooth headset. I used to think that the Plantronics Discovery 925/975 looked very stylish and I thought I looked ok while wearing them until I started watching "24" Season 8. Everyone in CTU wears the Discovery 975 and well, I think they all look ridiculous.
CALL & MUSIC QUALITY
Jabra has finally decided to use dual mics in their noise cancellation technology, similar to how Plantronics and Aliph have. Jabra calls theirs, Noise Blackout EXTREME. And like Plantronics' AudioIQ2, it works. It cancels out background noise very well so that the person on the other end of the call can hear you clearly. The EXTREME also automatically adjusts the volume of the call so that in noisy environments, you can hear the caller more clearly. To protect your ears against sudden loud noises, it also has what they call, Acoustic Shock Protection. A welcome feature addition to the EXTREME is support for A2DP which allows you to listen to music from your device via the headset. It's in mono, so it doesn't sound great, but it is certainly good enough for casual music listening, NPR and for podcasts.
BATTERY & CHARGING
The battery life is about average for a modern Bluetooth headset and it takes 2 hours to fully charge. I found that it came almost fully charged however and only needed about 15 minutes to charge the first time. I was ecstatic with the charging options included with the Jabra EXTREME. It comes with a USB car charger and includes a detachable piece that you can use to plug the headset into and charge it through ANY powered USB port. So, you could be charging your headset on the way to work in your car and finish charging it in your office from your laptop. Awesome! I am baffled by the short cord on the AC charger though. I'm guessing they shortened it thinking most people charge their headsets from a counter-top wall outlet, but I don't. My chargers are usually on the floor behind my desk. Lucky for me, since the headset uses a micro-USB port, I use my Motorola Droid's charger at my desk to charge both.
BUTTONS
A welcome feature on the Jabra EXTREME is a dedicated power switch. I have never had a headset that paired as quickly as the EXTREME. Whenever I flip the power switch on, my Droid pairs within 5 seconds. It also has an answer/end button and a volume up and a volume down button. The volume buttons are rather small, but you get used to them. Also, when you aren't on a call, if you push either of the volume buttons, it acts as a battery life indicator. Green means 1-4.5 hours of talk time remaining, yellow means 10 minutes to 1 hour of time remaining, and red means less than 10 minutes of talk time remaining.
SUMMARY
I was never a fan of Jabra Bluetooth headsets until now. Most never fit well or were comfortable. Jabra has finally made one that is reasonably comfortable to use, though they could do even better. The call quality, advanced noise cancellation, charging options and very low MSRP, make the Jabra EXTREME an amazing value and my choice for use in the car.

When I first got this headset, I was really excited because it was sleek looking and promised to be be a great "noise reducing headphone". But the more I worked with it the more disappointed I became.
One of the things I liked about it was that it came with a nice little charging stand which is good because while I always remember my phone, my bluetooth headset gets lost in the clutter and is usually forgotten. Pairing with my Samsung smartphone was a piece of cake.
But then came trying to stick it in my ear. The picture shows you a plastic clip to help it stay put in your ear. Unfortunately, that clip comes off so easily that I could not get it to stay on and around my ear at the same time. So I figured that it was small enough that if it was properly seated in my ear and I wasn't moving much, it would probably work. But then I couldn't figure out how to get the earpiece to settle into my ear. It came with several and I tried all of them but again, I guess I just have these freakish ears that are hard to fit.
I finally got the best fit I could so came for the moment of truth of actually using it to make a call. The sound quality was ok but not significantly better than other headphones and not better than using my cell phone directly. I went outside where there was more noise and while you could tell there was some noise cancelling, it wasn't "EXTREME" like the name would imply.
My biggest complaint though is with the controls. The size of this headset is probably the smallest I have seen which is great because it has a very low "dork factor". However, the buttons are so small and close together that you are constantly fiddling with it to find the right one. More often than not, I just didn't. I suppose if you used it all the time, you would get used to it. But I'm unusual in that I really don't use my cell phone that much so I never really got comfortable with it -- though I tried very hard! I used it for over a month.
To summarize:
Pros:
-----
-- very low profile and sleek form factor... virtually no "dork factor"
-- easy to set up and use
-- Battery life as good as it comes
Cons:
-----
-- hard to fit in my ears
-- clip doesn't stay put making for an insecure fit in your head.
-- controls are hard to use because it is so small
-- while there is some noise cancelling, it is not what I would consider "EXTREME"
I really wanted to like this headset but it just wasn't a great fit for me.

This thing is tiny! I do not like the charging port (micro B instead of mini B) but that is minor. The ear clip holds securely. It takes a little getting used to and causes irritation where the earpiece rubs inside the ear.
The controls do not work with the iPhone 3Gs, 3.1.2. I have the same problem with the Motorola H500, so it is most likely the iPhone software. They work fine on the original iPhone. (The BT350 works with my 3Gs, so I know it is not broken, just a software issue...)

This was the cheapest bluetooth for my phone (blackberry pearl).
PROS:
very loud and clear
fits comfortably
comes with extra ear hook
very easy to sync
great value for price
simple instructions
CONS:
Compatibility not universal (check to make sure before you buy)-upgraded phone and now I can't use it for anything which is disappointing

Jabra BT 5020 Executive Bluetooth Headset [Bulk Package] Reviews

I love most Jabra headsets that I've tried, however, I absolutely HATE this one, Jabra BT 5020.
This unit is very large and bulky.
It is impossible to talk on the unit while outside -- even on a nice day that has no wind.
If your vehicle has any noise at all, you won't be able to hear through this headset, it picks up and amplifies any background noise.
I sent my first one back for repair because I just knew it was defective since it did not have the qualities I have come to expect with Jabra products.
They sent another one to me and it is the same noisy thing ....SO, I am not using this headset, I even tried to give it to a friend who doesn't have any headset -- and she gave it back saying she couldn't hear with it.
It is now sitting in a drawer :-{
Please research this model before purchasing it, I wish I had done that...

Initially I purchased the Jabra BT5020 to replace my ancient but still kicking, back up headset. As a regular buyer of Jabra products, I've found that this company is usually on top of their game in electronics. Sadly, Jabra completely missed the boat on this poorly engineered product.
Easy pairing of the BT5020 to my cell phone was the only positive note coming from the purchase of this over hyped tool. Considering the large size of the headset, I was surprised to find the controls way too small to serve any real time every day function.
Like most new head set technology, the Jabra BT5020 can be rotated for wear on either ear. Complete with two comfort plugs, it does provide a nice fit. Audio performance was the ultimate letdown. In a quiet room, incoming audio is average at best. Outgoing calls are always muffled and deteriorated. So bad that I had to shut down the BT5020 in order to complete the call.
To sample what others were telling me about the poor audio and transmission performance, my associate took the BT5020 for a test drive. When I dialed her it took me only a few seconds to learn about the terrible audio and static others were receiving from my calls. Even with a small amount of background noise in the same building, audio was lost.
Thinking that perhaps it was just a bad unit I returned the original BT5020 for an exchange. To make a long story short, same scenario and almost the same results. The bad reception was still there and to make matters worse, the ear piece actually broke off. Apparently there was a weak point in the molding.
Without a doubt, the problem lies within quality control. Over the years I have owned several Jabra devices that went the distance and easily rated five stars. Make no mistake, the Jabra BT5020 Bluetooth Headset is not one of them. This product should have never made it past the drawing board.

The sound is good but the earpiece does not stay in place and it hurts my ear. Does not sit confortably.

I bought this as a gift for my husband so that he could talk to me on his way home from work, as it's a very long drive. The sound is not loud enough for him to hear me well, and when he talks he sounds muffled, like his mouth is full of marbles or something. It would probably work ok if you are in a quiet place but does not work as it should in the car. Another thing that interferes with it for some reason is our PS3, it will not work at all when the PS3 is turned on.

Jabra HALO Bluetooth Stereo Headset Reviews

I bought this headset specifically to pair with my iPhone. The sound is great and I certainly did not experience the volume issue that a previous reviewer noted. Bluetooth works very well when paired. Most of the time I have to delete the device from the iPhone and allow it to pair as if initially. That is a hassle but works well. The fit is comfortable but the rigid band that connects the ear pieces limits to some extent the flexibility. I have enjoyed a number of phone conversations and that function is so far flawless. I can hear the other party very well and everyone has reported excellent sound on their end. The light weight, comfort and wireless functionality makes this product a winner and well worth the price.

I finally took the plunge to buy a stereo bluetooth headset even though there a few choices. I have to preface my review saying I have a small head and very small ear canals so headsets that might fit well on most others are too big for me. I didn't want a cord hanging down on my neck or headphones that fall out when I run. The Jabra Halo is extremely comfortable and secure. It fits very flush so I can even wear a cap over it. My only concern is that it will be too warm to wear in the summertime. The sound is excellent without any interruption. The volume sensor takes a little getting used to since it's not a mechanical volume control but works well. Like the comments of others - the lowest volume may not be low enough for some. I tend to listen at the gym or running outside so my main concern is sufficient loudness and the Halo has that covered. Pairing was easy although I didn't have the headset sides locked into place so I had to call Jabra. I called another time about using the headset to move to the next selection (which can't be done on an iPhone). Both times Jabra tech answered the call immediately and provided excellent help.
